Stress Tips...by
G. Gaynor McTigueThrow something out every day. You've
got too much stuff in your house. Office. Garage. Attic. Useless clutter that's
weighing you down, getting in the way, obscuring the things you really need. Be
realistic. If you're not going to use it, lose it. And you don't have to make
a humongous project out of it. Every day, find one thing you don't need and toss
it. Or give it away. Over time, the clutter will begin to vanish and space and
order will magically appear in your home...and your life. Why make yourself crazy? Keep like things in like places. Don't
store the tennis rackets in the closet and the balls in the garage. Or the vacuum
cleaner in the basement and the bags in the attic. It's hard enough to find one
thing much less remember where two or even three items are kept. And it takes
more time fetching them. Store related items together so you'll know exactly where
they'll be. Why make yourself crazy? Store things out of the way. Take
an extra moment or two to put things back where they belong. Why? Because you
can be sure that wherever you put them temporarily they will soon be annoyingly
in the way. More than that, things left out tend to multiply to the point where
work surfaces and living space soon disappear. Nip those stragglers in the bud
and haul them out of sight. Why make yourself crazy? If it's broke, fix it. Nothing
gets more neglected than minor repairs. They can stare us in the face for years.
But letting them wait robs you of more than full use of the item involved. Things
like sighing toilets and wobbly garden gates eat away at your sense of order and
serenity. Get into the habit of taking care of it right away. Just making an appointment
with the repairperson will ease your mind (unless of course the guy doesn't show).
Even more satisfying, fix it yourself. Upkeep is as good for the mind as it is
for the home. Why make yourself crazy?
