Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..TUE.03/15/05 Delegate. Stress is often caused by the inability to let go, a constant need to micromanage, the fear that everything will fall apart the minute you turn your back. It leaves you hung up on time-consuming details, stifles the participation and growth of others, and creates unnecessary tension all around. Take the leap of faith. Learn to delegate. Assign responsibilities and give others the chance to prove themselves. You can dole it out gradually, to gain confidence and minimize error, but begin unburdening yourself of the oppressive minutia that's needlessly choking your life. You can experience a marked reduction in stress in a relatively short time simply by delegating. Why make yourself crazy? Based
on G. Gaynor McTigue's acclaimed book Why Make Yourself Crazy? featured
in major publications and on talk shows across America. Make
StressHoliday.com your home page and be greeted each weekday morning with a new
stress-reducing strategy!
Don't answer your morning emails right away. Read them, but don't answer them -- unless there's an immediate fire to put out. They'll sap your time and the mental energy needed for more important tasks. Save them for later when you need a break. Responding will be easier then, too, since your subconscious will be working on them all the while. (Notice how you instantly know what to say when you revisit them.) Personal messages and jokes can be especially insidious and take a big chunk out of your day. They're electronic water coolers. And try not to interrupt your work flow every time a new message arrives. Wait till you've got a bunch. The object here: fewer distractions, more focus, less stress. Why make yourself crazy?
