Today's
Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..WED.7/13/05 An ego is the hardest thing to maintain. Egotism
is addictive. The more you feed it, the more it needs to be fed. If your self-worth
is dependent on the adulation of others, you put yourself at their mercy, and
they may not always be willing to comply. People are notoriously fickle. They
love creating icons, so they can gleefully knock them off their pedestals. Think
about that. No matter how rich or famous you are, if your self-esteem needs endless
coddling you become nothing but a slave to it...and have to constantly work, stress
and even pander to maintain it. Look at all the self-anointed poo-bahs of the
world falling all over themselves for the slightest recognition. Do you admire
them? Or snigger at their almost childlike appetite for attention? The opposite
of this is altruism. Do good for the simple joy of doing good. If praise comes
your way, fine. If it doesn't, that's okay, too. Why make yourself crazy? Make StressHoliday.com your home page and be greeted each weekday morning with a new stress-reducing strategy! Based
on G. Gaynor McTigue's acclaimed book Why Make Yourself Crazy? featured
in major publications and on talk shows across America.
Previous Stress Tip Don't let outside pressures run your life. Everyone today is under unrelenting pressure to do more, spend more, work more, volunteer more, play more. And we give in because we fear being left behind, or people will think ill of us, or we never learned how to say no. In effect, we're handing over the reins of our lives to others...relinquishing control to outside influences oblivious to our own best interests. No wonder we're a crazed society! Sure, there are lots of great things to do out there. But do them selectively. In your own time. At your own pace. And recognize that you simply can't do them all. Resist those outside pressures and follow your own inner compass. Why make yourself crazy?
