Today's
Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..MON.9/12/05 Don't mix personal politics with office politics. Talk
to a man for half an hour and he will more than likely incautiously reveal his
political leanings. Women are more discreet in this regard. While it might be
reassuring to find people at work who share your political views, it's a good
bet others don't. And proclaiming your beliefs too righteously or frequently can
create tension and stress around you. Even provoke ridicule. There's also the
possibility that those in authority will take umbrage at your decided opinions.
Be open to diverse points of view and sensitive to offending others or making
them uncomfortable. In the same way another's impassioned rants might make you
feel. As a rule, it's best to keep personal politics out of the workplace. Why
make yourself crazy?
Previous Stress Tip Don't let others leave you in limbo. There are people you know who keep changing plans on you. Or whose inability to decide on something is holding you up. Or who aren't giving you the whole story. And it's usually for their own benefit, with little regard for yours. It's nice to be accommodating. To a point. But when another's vacillating is hanging you up, stressing you out...it's time to get firm. Have no qualms about saying "I've got to move on this." "I need an answer." Or "I have to know, one way or the other." It will jolt them into an awareness that you have needs, too. And help them get off the dime. Don't be a patsy for another's indecision. Why make yourself crazy?
