Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..MON.6/13/05 Take advantage of the cooling off period. This
is a very effective tool when you're angry at someone or something (and how often
is that!) and prone to react in ways that aggravate the situation rather than
defuse it. Next time you're incensed, allow yourself a chunk of time to cool off.
A good start is to write down exactly what you might have done, or said, at the
height of your fury. This in itself will help dissipate some of the anger. More
importantly, when you read it later on, you'll get a sobering picture of what
might have happened had you not declared a cooling off period. And realize how
easy it is to overreact. Note that cooling off doesn't mean suppressing your stress
so it's still smoldering and festering underneath. It means giving yourself time
to vent your inflamed emotions in a more gradual, safer way. Work on keeping your
cool. Why make yourself crazy? Make StressHoliday.com your home page and be greeted each weekday morning with a new stress-reducing strategy! Based
on G. Gaynor McTigue's acclaimed book Why Make Yourself Crazy? featured
in major publications and on talk shows across America.
Previous Stress Tip Celebrate your feet. Yes, your
feet. You take them way too much for granted. Spend a day and honor them. Care
for them. Because feet are amazing. They get you where you want to go. Frequently
do overtime. Take a lot of abuse. Yet rarely complain. (Except for an occasional
blistering protest.) So today, give something back. Treat them to a massage. Stretch
them out. Clean them up. Clip the nails. Maybe even splurge on a pedicure, a comfortable
new pair of shoes, or soft slippers. Think how vital your feet are. How skillfully
they hold you up, shuttle you around, and perform countless incredible...well...feats.
From this day on, appreciate the wonderful gifts that are your feet...and all
the possibilities they bring to your life. Why make yourself crazy?
