Today's
Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..MON.9/19/05 Build in the expectation of malfunctions. When
we buy things -- homes, cars, appliances, computers -- in our enthrallment with
their newness and pride of acquisition, we never imagine them breaking down, needing
repair, or eventually being replaced. So when it actually happens, it comes as
a shock to us, a stroke of bad luck we didn't deserve. Causing much anxiety and
stress. Look, these aren't anomalies, they're normal occurrences. Each year, expect
that some items will break and need fixing or replacement. You just don't know
what they'll be. Also, set aside a certain dollar amount, at least in your mind,
you can expect to pay. Then, when something goes kaput, you won't feel victimized.
And will treat it like the routine event it is. Why make yourself crazy?
Previous Stress Tip Set aside time for each other. Are you too busy to be a husband? Wife? Lover? Relationships often get shortchanged in the hubbub of daily life. In fact, they're usually first to get tossed aside, often to make room for the most insignificant things. That's taking each other too much for granted. You risk letting your intimacy fade and your relationship wither. Keep both well nourished. Set aside a chunk of time each week to spend together, just the two of you. Make it inviolable, mandatory, and go out and have a good time. Strong relationships stay strong by building in essential time for each other. Why shortchange yourself? Why make yourself crazy?
