Today's
Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..TUE.8/23/05 The stress of terror. As
if you don't already have enough to worry about, you have to contend with the
knowledge there are people out there plotting to kill you. Or destroy your way
of life. If it's any consolation, this is nothing new in the history of mankind.
There always was, always will be those who want to impose their beliefs on others,
dominate them, even randomly kill them. The difference today is the violence of
the methods used and the global media attention each episode receives. While you
can't ignore this reality (despite what some inane politicians tell you), neither
should you live your life in terror. Go about your days with cautious awareness,
savoring each one that passes in safety and freedom. And in whatever way you can,
support efforts not only to root out terrorists and prevent their deadly acts,
but promote the kind of cooperation and understanding among people that deters
hatred in the first place. Why make yourself crazy? Based
on G. Gaynor McTigue's acclaimed book Why Make Yourself Crazy? featured
in major publications and on talk shows across America.
Previous Stress Tip Do you stress when it comes to tipping? Few
things are as cloaked in ambiguity and awkwardness as the common gratuity. Whether
or not to tip, who to tip, when to tip, and how much to tip are perplexing questions.
And in an increasingly service-oriented society, more and more tipping situations
present more occasions to squirm. Some general guidelines. When in doubt, tip.
Or at least offer a tip. It's a lot better than not tipping and later agonizing
over it. If you're afraid you might insult the person, simply ask "Do you
accept gratuities?" as you present the tip. They've no doubt been through
this before and won't be as fazed about it as you are. Of course, if the service
is lousy or the provider rude, feel no compunction about stiffing them. How much
to tip? That depends on a lot of things, but you can find some help at: http://azaz.essortment.com/tipping_rdef.htm
and other web sites. Why make yourself crazy?
