7/18/06 Don't be pressured into unhealthy stress. Even
if it's your supervisor or colleague who's doing the pressuring. If you're constantly
given projects that are impossible to complete without pulling your hair out,
doing a slapdash job, or suffering a near stroke for your trouble, speak up. Calmly
and firmly tell them it's not nearly enough time to perform the task accurately
and professionally. Then offer possible solutions: you'll need more time; you
can do part of the project in the allotted time; or you'll require more help.
If you're a good competent worker your request should command respect and compliance.
If it doesn't, and little regard is shown for your health and well-being, it's
time to start exploring other options. Why make yourself crazy? Today's Health Headlines Previous Stress Tip Don't expect gratitude. You may get it, but don't expect it. Accept that a lot of your good efforts will go unacknowledged. (And your kids will never fully appreciate you until they have children of their own!) Today, people mostly take notice when things go wrong and take the rest for granted. So rather than repeatedly set yourself up for disappointment, don't expect accolades. Do it because it's right, because it pleases YOU, because your reward should derive from the fruit of your labors, not the arbitrary whim of disinterested recipients. And when that infrequent expression of thanks does come your way, it'll be that much sweeter. Why make yourself crazy?
