Today's
Stress Tip..by
G. Gaynor McTigue..WED.6/29/05 Don't mistake vacation for life. You're
on vacation. You're in the most pleasant setting. Having the most wonderful time.
Everyone is cheerful, friendly, kind. The food is great. Stress is nonexistent.
You say to yourself, "I can get used to this." And you think this is
the way life should be all the time. And agonize over the improbability of ever
achieving that kind of "freedom" and independence. Hold on. It may seem
like nirvana now in contrast to your regular doings. But (hard to believe) you'd
soon grow sick of it. The point is, you don't have to go to the opposite extreme
to live an enriching, stress-free life. Just a modest move toward the middle can
have an enormously positive effect. Remember, you still need the good stress:
challenges, goals, purpose. It's the constant bad stress that's the culprit. So
enjoy your vacation for what it is. A revitalizing temporary break. Why make yourself
crazy? Make StressHoliday.com your home page and be greeted each weekday morning with a new stress-reducing strategy! Based
on G. Gaynor McTigue's acclaimed book Why Make Yourself Crazy? featured
in major publications and on talk shows across America.
Previous Stress Tip Eat fresh. There's something
to be said for eating fresh, unadulterated, natural foods. After all, these are
what got us here in the first place, aren't they? Beyond the nutritional benefits,
it's therapeutic to stop off at local food markets each day and pick up fresh
fish, meats, breads, fruits and vegetables...as opposed to frozen, processed,
canned, or heaven-knows-what. Perhaps we're satisfying some primal hunter-gatherer
urge, in the most literal way, to provide for ourselves and our family. Whatever's
at play, it has a way of easing our stress, soothing and reassuring us that we're
fulfilling a basic need. Go out and shop for the makings of a good, fresh meal
tonight. It's time well spent. Why make yourself crazy?
